On This Day in Telephone History, February 12TH 1877, Alexander Graham Bell’s first public demonstration of long distance telephone. H. M. Batchelder was the first journalist to submit a news report using a telephone. A Boston journalist, Batchelder used Alexander Graham Bell’s Lyceum Hall telephone to speak with AB Fletcher of the Boston Globe. The other end of the telephone line was located at 5 Exeter Place in Boston. The news report was regarding a telephone lecture by Alexander Graham Bell at Salem, MA on February 12, 1877.
