On This Day in Telephone History August 31ST 1962 TWX is cutover to Dial TWX Nationwide. The Bell System’s Teletypewriter Exchange Service was cutover from manual to automatic dial operation on a nationwide basis. 54,000 TWX customers with data transmitter/receiver equipment were cutover from operator calling to direct dialing.
