On This Day in Telephone History December 17TH 1926 – Organization begun of Electrical Research Products, Inc., wholly owned subsidiary of Western Electric Company, to market by-product inventions of Bell Telephone Laboratories. One such product was the Movietone sound-on-film recording system. Which, by 1928, virtually every major and minor studio in Hollywood was licensed by Western Electric’s newly created marketing subsidiary, Electrical Research Products, Incorporated (ERPI).
