On This Day in Telephone History July 28TH 1961 AT&T and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration signed agreement to launch Telstar satellites in 1962. In January, the FCC authorized AT&T to operate experimental radio stations for basic earth-satellite communications study, called Project Telstar, followed by NASA and AT&T announcement of their intention to launch Telstar satellite during 1962. TELSTAR 1 was launched on top of a Thor-Delta rocket on July 10TH 1962.
