On This Day in Telephone History August 10TH 1876 Canada’s first Long Distance Telephone Call. Canada’s first long distance telephone call (one-way) was received over telegraph lines at Paris, Ontario by Alexander Graham Bell from his Father and Uncle at Brantford, Ontario. Permission to use this telegraph line was granted by Telegraph Manager Lewis B. McFarlane Subsequently entered the telephone business Became president of the Bell Telephone of Canada and then Chairman of the Board.
