On This Day in Telephone History November 30TH 1936 AT&T Demonstrated Coax Cable System.
Demonstration of AT&T’s experimental coaxial telephone and television cable system by Frank B. Jewett, president of Bell Telephone Laboratories, who spoke with FCC officials in Washington, DC. The first experimental coaxial channels were looped between New York and Philadelphia to make a 3,800-mile circuit over the 95-mile system and could transmit 240 telephone calls simultaneously. Demonstrations for the press were held December 1ST.
